MIAMI BEACH | Two women stole a man's bank card after he met them at the Fontainebleau, 4441 Collins Ave., and took them to a store at 1407 Washington Ave., and then to the 100 block of Lincoln Road between 1 and 2 a.m. Oct. 9. The man said they got in a cab and drove to the Washington Avenue store where he took out money from an ATM and noticed one of the women looking at him punching in his pin. The three got back in the cab and while one woman was “maintaining the victim occupied'' while driving to Lincoln Road, according to the police report, the other woman reached into the man's pocket and took out his bank card. When they got to their stop, the women got in another cab and took off with his card.

After a sixteen month run as the most debauched saloon/speakeasy/underground disco South Beach has seen since the turn of the century, we’ve decided to uproot Bella Rose and find a new home.

When we opened in a decrepit building on a desolate block just off the seediest stretch of Washington Avenue in April 2008, it was the best location we could find for the type of joint we wanted.  Meaning: it was all we could afford.

Although the economic crash has been brutal and we struggled through it like everyone else, the silver lining is that rents are finally retreating to rational levels.  So, as the deadline came to decide whether to re-up and rennovate or move, we decided to take advantage of the opportunity to look for a new space – a bigger spot in a better location.

As soon as we know where we’re headed, we’ll announce it.  And if you have a suggestion, feel free to share it.

To our loyal patrons and our extended, dysfunctional Bella Rose family, thanks for the late nights, the early mornings (occasionally the late mornings), the carousing and the hangovers.

See you this Fall.
