Adult stem cells might help repair hearts damaged by heart attack — in part by becoming heart cells themselves.<p/> That was the finding of a new study, released Monday, that points to a promising new treatment for heart-attack patients that could reduce mortality and lessen the need for heart transplants. Adult stem cells also could help heal livers, kidneys, pancreases and other organs.

Tom&aacute;s Regalado, a City Hall fixture for the past 13 years, will be sworn in as Miami's 33rd mayor at noon Wednesday.<p/> Regalado, 62, easily defeated fellow Commissioner Joe Sanchez last week in a low-turnout two-man race by campaigning on a promise to slow the breakneck development of the past eight years and focus on local neighborhood issues.
