Police say screeners found a handgun in a traveler's carry-on bag at a Miami International Airport security checkpoint.<p/> Authorities said they discovered the gun when Eduardo Saladin-Zacarias, 51, went through the checkpoint Saturday afternoon. Saladin-Zacarias was flying to his home in the Dominican Republic.

A Florida International University law student visiting the Dominican Republic was killed in a car crash over the weekend.<p/> Jorge Pupo, 33, a second-year student and a member of the law review, was killed in a head-on collision along with another family member, Jorge Ramos Pupo, 63.

Politicians are supposed to be good talkers, but prosecutors allege West Miami Mayor Cesar Carasa went too far.<p/> Between 2006 and 2009, the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office says, Carasa did not pay for $70,756.37 worth of long-distance calls made on his city cellphone. Prosecutors allege the calls, made to the Dominican Republic and China, had nothing to do with city business.
