Miami Beach Big Sweep June 14, 2009 – A Beach Clean-Up Competition
The Miami Beach Big Sweep 2009 – A Beach Clean-Up Competition
Volunteer Cleanup of South Beach From Government Cut to 15th St.
WHAT
The Environmental Coalition of Miami Beach (ECOMB) and the City of Miami Beach will be hosting their second annual “Big Sweep”. This is a volunteer driven event to collect all of the litter from the beautiful beach between Government cut and 15th St. Individual and team volunteers will register and gather at two stations (South Pointe Drive X Ocean Drive and 15th St. X Ocean Drive). Starting at 8:30 a.m., this friendly competition will set volunteers into motion collecting litter and debris from the beach and shoreline. The two groups will converge at 7th Street where ECOMB’s Chairman, Michael Gongora, Executive Director, Luiz Rodrigues, ECOMB’s Board of Trustees, as well as many other event sponsors, will host an appreciation party and an awards ceremony. Volunteers will be treated to lunch, participate in a fantastic raffle, be awarded the “You Are Awesome” Perpetual Trophies and watch a shockingly educational event intended to demonstrate just how much litter is buried in the beach!
Honorary Co-Chairs: US Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Miami Beach Commissioner Jerry Libbin
